NY Internal Auditor / Credit Specialist

Scope and Purpose

• Develop comprehensive and detailed audit program, based on the HO Chief Audit Officer methodology framework, to support the execution of audit tests and verifications
• Conduct audit engagements, under instructions from the Head of the Internal Audit of the Branch and / or in collaboration with other Head Office Chief Audit Officer specialist functions, interacting autonomously with the audited structures
• Prepare diligently audit work papers
• Prepare, in a timely manner, the audit report that clearly presents the identified weaknesses and / or areas of improvement and that formulates effective recommendations for mitigation actions
• Monitor the resolution of the identified weaknesses and the implementation of mitigation actions
• Follow the evolution of the business and operational activities and of the credit portfolio of the Branch, as well as the changes in the related internal (local and HO) and external regulations
• Maintain solid working relationships with relevant Branch and Head Office counterparties
• Contribute to the annual and continuous risk assessment with ideas of areas that need audit attention

Required Experience

• Minimum of five (5) - seven (7) years of commercial bank auditing and/or risk management experience, especially in credit auditing (rating, lending, credit management, asset classification / impairment testing and provisioning)
• Proficiency in audit standards and techniques including current declarations of the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA), Bank Administration Institute (BAI), and the American Bankers Association (ABA), etc.
• Knowledge of Regulatory Compliance matters (OFAC, AML, alphabet regs., etc.) and thorough understanding of the banking regulations applicable to those areas assigned for audit
• Experience acquired through participation to structured credit quality assessment / credit file review in US commercial banks with corporate banking profile is a significant plus

Required Qualifications, Skills and Knowledge

• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution; MBA/M.Sc. preferred
• Broad knowledge in credit analysis standards and techniques, as well as problem and non-performing loan management practices and related accounting treatment, asset classification and impairment / provisioning
• General understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles in the United States (U.S. GAAP) and of International Accounting (IAS) and International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS), as well as of United States Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (U.S. GAAS)
• Broad knowledge of banking services, corporate governance and risk management best practices (incl. the Basel framework)
• Certification - CIA, CFSA, ACAMS, CPA, ACCA, CRCM, CRP, CBA, CFE - or other industry designated certification, a plus
Competencies required    •    Effective verbal and written communication skills to deal with auditees, including departmental / senior managers
• Effective time management to meet deadlines and issue reports
• Professional auditor or business practitioner competences
• Personal Computer competences (including an intermediate-level knowledge of MS Excel)
• Effective collaborative skills that contribute to positive working relationships
• Ability to collaborate with multiple areas of the business, including Compliance, AML / Anti Financial Crime, Risk, Operations and Senior Management
